What comes next?

So for those of you who have been active on the server, you'd probably seen that we're moving into the final arc of the Mass Effect Legacy story. Now with Commander Shepard on board to assist the 2nd MSRC with ending the Entente and stopping the Venir/Cerberus.

This begs the question of what we should do next. Which I wanted to discuss here on the forums due to the difficulty of getting the community into a discord meeting on a moment's notice. I'm taking all suggestions. And I have some if my own. Be warned however. I will only do a schema I have interest in. Because if I fall out of interest then things tend to lose steam.

I'll post my suggests here after work. Feel free to throw ideas out below.

If we were to go with Fantasy, the one setting I would honestly really like to see is Morrowind. For me, it really clicks with that 'alien fantasy' sort of thing -- not in terms of how sci-fi it is, but because of how outlandish the environment, people, and architecture are. Also, silt striders are pretty cool.

Titanfall would be pretty neat, too. More along the lines of being actual Militia pilots, though. I marvel equally at the setting and the pilot/titan gameplay, but just the setting in a universe where normal grunts get one-shotted and overkilled all the time is pretty lame.

Star Wars is alright. There's not much you can really do, though. Latter end of the Clone Wars or early Empire as a starting point would be good, I feel.

Star Wars:

I am a big fan of when we did Star Wars in the past. We've done it twice over with good results with a great quest system. The only thing I see with this though (And personally a preference due to me being apart of event team for it) was wanting to get back onto Event Team - but only if Star Wars is picked.

A few former characters from the Star Wars world that were important, good ways to show that we had fun interesting characters within the five or so years before BBY.

Deia Caste - A Pantoran Force Sensitive who joined the black hand, and was almost killed, becoming a full sith with help from... (Revival)

Cal - A Human Force Sensitive trained in the ways of the force, but after a Sith Inquisitor slew his master, Cal killed the Inquisitor, going down the path as a Sith. (Meachum)

Duke Heston - A Human Pilot who owned a bar, which was burned down by Deia Caste. (Pepper)

When Vasili was apart of the community he had a badass Mandolorean character that worked out well.

Fantasy:

Unlike other former RP's we've done in the past, we originally started off the Fantasy RP with a completely homebrewed world made by one of the former members of the community - Scout (Forums with those chracters here, might need addblock http://euprp.forumotion.com/f55-bodhan-torr-roleplay ). It was a rather fun experience, but if we do it now we are going to have to use it within a different world. I would suggest something akin to Skyrim, Warhammer Fantasy, or Dark Souls with a dark fantasy theme, We could use a leveling system, and use a questboard like system. Only thing though is, I would again want my Event Team back only for these due to my quest running abilities.

Former characters that were fun apart of Fantasy:

Asclepsis Prodites - A former High Mage apart of the local courts, who proceeded to attempt to kill the Magistrate, causing high tensions against all high elves. (Revival)

Cato Rohan - A human warrior who was able to cause a rebellion and soon became the leader of a town, all on his own. (Aussie)

Nivifri - Despite the player who played her, was a wood elf who was able to gain favor of the gods of nature. (She who shall not be named.)

Borderlands:

Now this one I have no idea if we could do - but after playing a crap load of it recently and with the new game on the horizon, the world is massive and beautiful and has so many different stories you could tell within it. Now, the issue with the Borderlands franchise however is it is probably another quest based system, due to the fact of the story being worked around quests, but I'm sure we could figure out a way to make it more organized, treating it a bit like the first Fallout Iterations. A few potential characters some people could make (Just spitballing here)


A member of the Zaford Clan who left and is now a gun for hire, having a pension for drinking and shooting, probably at the same time.

A Hyperion deserter who has pieces of a Loader-Bot grafted onto their arms to help them survive within the wastes of Pandora.

A former citizen of Concordia on Elpis, Pandora's moon, with more of a focus on using Oz Kits to move around and get extra boosts.

The best setting for this would have to be within Borderlands 2, or the timeframe between The Pre Sequel, and Borderlands 2.

'Zombie Survival'/Left 4 Dead/Dead Rising/Dying Light

I put it around quotation marks because I would want to see something like this, but not exceptionally like this. There was a former Left 4 Dead RP server that was using nutscript that was focused around the world of Left 4 Dead, where they wandered post apocalyptic earth and had to salvage, survive, and the like against all forces. They did also homebrew a few things and it seemed to have worked out well, yet I believe they did shut down due to owner conflicts. It's also broad enough so we don't have to follow the storylines of either games. A few characters people could play would be...

A character who is a good ol boy from texas, complete with a pump action shotgun and enjoys engineering.

An Amputee who is missing his left leg, but was an athlete and is now good at using his leg to his advantage.

A former bartender from the local city, who has started to develop a drinking problem within the zombie apocalypse.

Metal Gear

The metal gear RP we did for a very short while was fucking fun, and I had some of the best moments within it, taking it like a Mercenary group pre MGS5, our group came together after the destruction of our other groups. It was cut off due to the usage of Nutscript, and our guy saying he 'broke' the server.

A few old characters that I can remember were...

'Mozart', a heavy weapons speccialist who had specialized playlists for whenever the going got tough, using casette tapes to listen to some killer tracks whilst he was fighting or was bank robbing. (Revival)

'Needles', A NPC like character who was the crews medical doctor, his left arm cut off and replaced with a metal prosthesis which contained a bunch of medical supplies, serving as a former soldier from China, before desereting and going to Nepal, and then going back to his Mercenary ties. (Also Revival)

Honestly, I only remember my characters. So - not really a good deal.

There are a bunch of other ones that I would enjoy/want to do in the first place (Metro, Stalker, Fallout, Titanfall, Dead Space) but I just wanted to highlight a few of my top choices.

So this is what I had in mind

Custom Fantasy (Adventure non-military)
- World built from the ground up. Will take a bit longer to dev since I'd like to take my time creating the world. The story would revolve a similar group like LOTR's Fellowship, Hoping to unite the various kingdoms against the a coming evil. Or allying with the evil forces to uplift the rest of the kingdoms.

Zombie (Survival)
- A viral infection stemming from a military bio-weapon. Including various types of zombies, including special infected. And Zero Infected.

Metal Gear (Military rp/Survival sort of)
- This involves being a part of the MSF that was left behind or evacuated from Mother Base during the attack and was split up from the others who managed to get out with Kaz and Big Boss. Story would revolve around tracking down Cipher and the ones who are personally hunting down survivors.

Titanfall (Survival)
- Original Titanfall idea. Years after Titanfall 2 where the Frontier worlds are barely hanging on after the catastrophe of the Frontier War that led to many planets being drained of resources.

Originally I wasn't for Star Wars. But that's mainly because I really enjoyed doing solo stories in DnD sessions rather than how we did it in the past. If we did Star Wars this time around it'd be a group thing. Anything on Gmod is going to be a group thing. It's just depends on the setting when and if there will be that much internal conflict.

I would be alright doing Star Wars I guess, but I'm hesitant to return to anything too science fiction-y. More so I'm getting a growing aversion to space roleplays. Something slightly futuristic, like say maybe 2030s or even closer to reality would be fun to do, maybe mixing in elements of the zombie type thing with it. I have a very oddly specific idea that revolves around an old DoD project that was shut down in Alaska, a YouTube ArmA roleplaying series was made based off the same idea, but I'm sort of thinking of taking it in a different direction.

More so Lovecraftian, with fourth-degree interdimensional warp fuckery coming into play, at least somewhat. I know it's a radical, off-the-wall idea, but it's a more modern idea with some of the features we can all enjoy from science fiction, without going into the asshole of the galaxy to roleplay. I can elaborate further if anyone is even interested.

I really don't want to do Star Wars. Coming away from Mass Effect and wanting to do something different means not doing another Military Sci-Fi. Not to mention each time we've done SW, it fails within a week no matter what.

Touching on my custom fantasy idea. I'd like to be fairly diverse in terms of different kingdoms and races as well as it's story. I could bring a snippet of it's story here if people are interested in hearing it.

Metro could be a very good schema to do. It is set only in the mid 2030's but most of the equipment and everything is a mix of early 2010's and earlier. There are multiple factions and hostiles that can be ran into while in the metro and there are many different time periods to chose from (2033,2033, and 2035) each with a different major event happening. Events such as the Dark Ones making themselves known, the race to D6 and the Rangers defense against the Reds, the war against the Reds, and the whole exodus attempt. The setting is grimdark and very easy to make, and it would allow for a variety of characters to be made and roleplayed. All and all it could be a solid choice for a semi-futuristic apocalypse setting, with all the fixings.

As much as I love Metro. There's a lot of shit to be set up for it to work out good. And I'm a bit behind on the lore since I couldn't play Metro: Last Light due to a hardware glitch and Exodus is on Epic. But if the majority were interested I'd be up for it.

As for my schemas: Here's a small intro into the custom fantasy world. Some names will just be placeholders or avoided for now


"It has been nearly five thousand years since the end of the Third War, Kingdoms have prospered and new dynasties have risen from the ashes of the fallen. The land of [placeholder] now teems with new life; shadowing the old Darkness that once enveloped the world. A darkness brought on by the Shadow Lord, Dyenisis. Now rumors have spread that the increase in attacks in the far lands are signs of his return. Foul creatures and ruinous kingdoms have banded together in service of a mysterious force. And their very lands have begun to be tainted by the scourge of Darkness."

"The Kingdom of Vrainland have called for a summit among the races of [placeholder] in order to find out if the rumors are true or not. And those selected to take off on this journey...may not return in one piece..."

Zombie:

"2026, It has been five years since society collapsed under the SZ-01 virus. Militaries across the world have been overrun, or have gone into hiding. Those who survived the initial chaos are now survivors. Living in a world where you must struggle everyday just to survive. The Virus has been unforgiving. It has spawned numerous monstrosities including Stalkers, Stranglers and Goliath Apes. All products of Subject Zero. A person who was once human like us. Having been twisted and turned into some sort of biological weapon. They care not for the living world anymore. As evident by their lack of action to stop the virus. And now they seemed only interested in wiping out the human race for good."

"However, Not all hope is lost. For those who survive, like me, We make every day count. And we try our best to find a new, permanent home away from the chaos that has taken hold."


Metal Gear:

"We had established our own state, A place where a soldier would not be disregarded like a tool. Where their skills would benefit the whole. But there are those who will and cannot see us thrive. Cipher has taken everything from us, The Boss, Mother Base, Everything. Now it's just us. But The Boss gave us a new purpose in our lives. A goal of peace. So that we wouldn't have to take up arms and become soldiers. How this is interpreted..Well. That is up to those who lead. And for Big Boss. It was for us to have our own 'Outer Heaven' free from the grasp that other countries have on them. For others, Such as Zero, It was to see the world united as one so that there couldn't be any wars if there was no one else to oppose but themselves."

"In the end. All we have is each other, the mission, and revenge against those who killed our brothers and sisters on Motherbase.."
